Common questions about both Trucklaws II and TruckClaws Commercial
TruckClaws General Questions
TruckClaws are effective in most conditions including mud, snow, ice and sand. Every scenario is different but we are available by phone and email to help you get the most out of your TruckClaws! There are lots of tips and tricks that are featured in our blog to get the most use out of your TruckClaws. Here are a few quick tips: When dealing with fine grain dry sand, pouring water in front of the tires can help the traction cleats grab better to get your initial forward momentum. When dealing with a steep hill in slick conditions, having multiple traction cleats on each tire will give better performance. When dealing with loose gravel, trying tossing a few small sticks or even straw in front of your tires to help the traction cleat grab. If buried deep in mud to the point where your truck frame is on high center, try laying a log or stump adjacent to your wheel and use our extender bars to lift you out.
In most cases one kit is enough. Our kits typically include two traction claws where one on each drive tire, are installed. In severe conditions, four traction claws, two on each drive tire, are installed. Purchase as many kits as you like. We also sell a TruckClaws II Offroad kit that includes 4 traction claws and 6 ratchets and 6 straps for frequent users.
No. Traction claws should be installed on both left and right drive tires.
When you first receive your TruckClaws you should read the install directions thoroughly and perform a dry run to make sure you have the proper wheel clearance. After that you should be able to install TruckClaws in less than 60 seconds per traction claw.
A lot of time and expense has gone into developing and manufacturing Truckclaws to work effectively in mud, sand, snow, and Ice. TruckClaws use high-quality metal materials designed to be reused again and again.
Many of our competitors use rubber or plastic and their solutions are often thrown away after one use. All TruckClaws products are made of solid high-quality steel and aircraft-grade aluminum that is laser-cut for precise dimensions. They are finished by hand, assembled, and inspected for quality control in our Virginia based manufacturing plant. When used properly, Truckclaws can last a lifetime and with one avoided tow it will pay for itself.
Our commercial clients that purchase our kits in large quantities know first-hand the positive impact our product has on their bottom line. The cost of tows and missed delivery deadlines is significantly reduced by having a TruckClaws kit in every one of their drivers’ trucks.
No! First of all, while the shape of our traction Claws might look similar to a C-Channel they are very different in design (see image below). Trying to make homemade versions of TruckClaws is dangerous and will not yield the same results. It took years of testing and designing to get our Traction Aid Devices to achieve the level of performance they are capable of today. Our product is manufactured and designed for a specific purpose, and no DIY version will produce the same results.
Common questions about our light truck recovery kits
TruckClaws II for Light Trucks
Yes, you can use them on any vehicle as long as you have the clearance needed at the fender (2.5 inches or 6.35cm) for the traction cleat , and room to insert the strap if there is a brake caliper . Also, you need a space in your rim for the strap to be inserted, if you have small holes in your rims the strap may be curled to thread the strap through. Many clients have reported using TruckClaws II successfully on tractors, side by sides, off-road ATVs, RVs, and Buses.
Yes! In fact, in some scenarios more than one set might be needed. Like climbing a very steep muddy or snowy hill, or trying to pull another vehicle out of a ditch. More sets installed mean more traction. We recommend installing multiple sets on the same drive wheels so you get more grabs per rotation.
No, they will not if used properly and according to the instructions. We include plastic rim-savers for low profile tires, but on most tires, the ratchet should be against the sidewall of your tire, not the rim. Some vehicle manufacturers use cheap plastic wheel covers or hubcaps on their wheels. In this scenario, plastic wheel covers should be removed before installing TruckClaws so no damage occurs when you tighten the ratchet strap.
There are several ways of using TruckClaws II on a 4-wheel drive vehicle. In most cases, only one claw on each rear tire is needed; however, two claws on each rear tire can be installed to enhance traction to power your way out.
Another option is to install a claw on each of the four tires. If you find yourself installing TruckClaws on a wheel that turns with your steering wheel always make sure there is plenty of clearance and that you keep your steering wheel straight or you risk reducing your clearance and damaging your vehicle at your own risk. Extender bars should NOT be installed on your front wheels as turning the steering wheel reduces clearance and the extender bars are even more prone to this risk.

This strap is simply a guide strap to help you thread the primary strap through your wheels. It is optional and not necessary to use unless you are having trouble guiding your strap through the wheel.
We include plastic rim-savers that can be inserted into your ratchets for low profile tires that might cause you to install the ratchet right on the edge of the wheel rim. On most tires, the ratchet should be against the sidewall of your tire, not the rim. Some vehicle manufacturers use cheap plastic wheel covers or hubcaps on their wheels. In this scenario, plastic wheel covers should be removed before installing TruckClaws so no damage occurs when you tighten the ratchet strap.
Yes. Trucks can still get stuck after chains have been installed. TruckClaws Commercial can be installed over your tire chains after you are stuck so that your truck can move to a location where the chains are functional again.
